The New England School of Architectural Woodworking (NESAW), in Easthampton, MA is an established woodworking school, seeking an instructor for our 9 month Architectural Woodworking program. This is a full-time position for 37 weeks from September through May, with the option of teaching more classes during the summer months.
Prospective candidates must have 10+ years of experience in architectural millworking/cabinetmaking (preferably AWI compliant), with at least 5 years of employment as a cabinetmaker/woodworker in a cabinetmaking shop.
Prior teaching and management experience a plus, but not required.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- Extensive experience with architectural millwork projects, including customer relations, design, drawing, estimating, cut-lists, milling, assembly, finishing and installation.
- Familiarity with a wide variety of millwork, including free standing and built-in cabinets/bookcases, fireplace surrounds/mantles, mouldings, doors and windows.
- Thorough understanding of materials, including all commonly used sheet goods, solid wood and its properties, veneers and plastic laminates.
- Strong project management, organizational and multi-tasking skills.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and train others in a shop environment.
- Basic knowledge of finishing techniques, including HVLP spray finishing.
- Good working knowledge of shop drawings, including reading and hand drawing; Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) experience (particularly AutoCAD) a plus.
- Experience with veneering and curved work a plus.
- CNC experience a plus.
